California Legislature Very Animal Friendly in 2012

This article outlines the rush of bills relating to a range of issues regarding the treatment of animals.  There is a bill prohibiting the use of dogs in the hunting of bears and bobcats.  Another bill raises the penalties for those convicted of cockfighting or other forms of animal abuse.  State Senator Fran Pavley had her law prohibiting landlords from requiring tenants to declaw their cats signed into law as well.

The article ends with the statement,

“You’d be hard-pressed to find a member of the Legislature who doesn’t have a dog or cat or had one as a kid,” said Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita. “They treat them like a member of their family.”

These laws reflect the increasing belief that pets are part of ones family. It is this attitude that “Trust Your Pet” reflects in our concern for insuring that the care of our pets, (our family members) continues even  in the case of a mishap or tragedy that would deprive the pet of his owner(s).
